Hypnotherapy – What is it

Hypnotherapy is the use of various hypnosis techniques for therapeutic purposes.

There are several different ‘types’ of hypnotherapy. Please see under ‘sessions offered’ for the types I offer.

Hypnotherapy allows us to access our sub conscious mind (to retrieve memories and beliefs) and offers the opportunity to create change in the form of new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviours or feelings. These new responses can allow you, to enrich your life, reach your full potential and move forward in a positive and rewarding way.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a trance state.  We all experience ‘trance like’ states in our everyday living. For example: becoming totally involved while watching a movie, day dreaming or driving a familiar route and not quite remembering the journey.

For Hypnotherapy purposes a trance state can be achieved with the assistance of a practitioner using well-chosen words, gentle tone of voice, relaxing setting etc. to help you into deep relaxation which allows you to access your sub-conscious mind.

“Hypnosis is a state of natural deep, relaxation and concentration. It helps you to use the power of your mind and your creative imagination to find new ways of dealing with problems and to alter unwanted patterns of behaviour. The hypnotic state enables you to access the ability of the subconscious mind to resolve deeply rooted issues.” Australian Hypnotherapist Association

Contrary to some of the myths surrounding Hypnosis, you cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do. You can only be guided into a hypnotic state if you want to be.
